Monster Energy AMA Motocross - Round 5 of the 2013 AMA Motocross at the Budds Creek MX, Maryland Eli Tomac in the 250 class and Ryan Villopoto in the 450's are the fastest in qualifying. Villopoto said the track is tricky "it's soft on top but has a hard base so if you get through the loose stuff it is slippery. A lot of off-cambers and technical sections". 250 Moto 1 - Musquin and Hahn get good starts, Webb, Baggett and Tomac dont. Blake Baggett must be feeling better as he makes his way from about 13th to first past both KTM riders Musquin and Roczen to take the lead and the win. 250 Moto 2 - The Pro-Circuit boys Baggett and Durham get good starts and take off. Once again Tomac is back in the pack in thirteenth. Tomac does a 'Baggett' and works his way through the pack to pass both Durham and Baggett on the same lap! Blake Baggett takes the overall for the day with one, two finishes. 450 Moto 1 - Mike Alessi grabs the holeshot ahead of Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey. Villopoto quickly gets to the front and I think everyone expected him to pull away for an easy win. Not today as Dungey picks up the speed and starts to close in. What might have been a good battle fizzles out as Dungey goes down in the rollers before the finish line. Villopoto takes the win from Dungey and Mike Alessi. 450 Moto 2 - Alessi grabs another holeshot ahead of Dungey, this time Villopoto is back in eighth. Dungey gets to the front and starts to make a gap. Villopoto is slow to get past riders which is unusual for him and once he is in second he cannot close the gap on Dungey who is riding really well today. Today Dungey was fast which made for good racing. I don't think Villopoto was real comfortable with the track from the way he was talking and that was enough to allow Dungey to win the day. Chad Reed, I fell, is slowly getting up to speed, just looks like he needs more 'race fitness'. Let's hope he can get up front and battle for some wins before the season is out. |
